Hobby Boss' 1/32 Spitfire Mk.Vb Trop is available online from Squadron

The Short Skyvan owes the distinctive box-like fuselage and long wings its intended purpose: the ability of loading even bulky cargo and to offer excellent short take-off and landing characteristics.

Being very successful in fulfilling this intended role, the Skyvan had been used by various airlines, air forces and skydiving clubs.

Between 1963 and 1986 153 Skyvans have been built, several are still flying. My model depicts a Short Skyvan flown by the Greek “Olympic Airways” in the 1970´s.

Airfix interpretation must have been a formidable kit by the standards of the 1970s. Today, of course, expectations have changed. General fit is quite okay; but hard filling and sanding is required to get a proper fit of the cockpit glassing. The overdone rivets have been sanded down to a more appropriate dimension- just visible. I exchanged all the antennas and pitot-tubes by etched parts from Eduard or scratched parts.

The cabins windows have been made by using liquid Micro Crystal from Microscale. That did work quite well to my pleasure.

After all that is still a buildable and nice little kit, nonetheless I would recommend using Eduard's excellent etched parts set!
