Xtradecal's 1/72 scale Junkers Ju 87 B/K/R Stuka decals
are available online from Squadron.com
The Spitfire is a sure-bet for decal makers, and this set’s release is no doubt timed to compliment the recent release of Eduard’s superb 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX kits.
The ten schemes offered are:
-
Mk.IXc, MA466 / BQ-S, 451(RAAF) Sqn, Corsica 1944;
-
Mk.IXc, NH346 / LK-M, 87 Sqn, Zeltweg, Austria, 1946;
-
LF.Mk.IXe, RK856 / CA-G, 3 Sqn SAAF, Maj C. Golding, Italy 1945;
-
Mk.IXb, MK805 / SH-B, 'Peter John III', 64 Sqn, Flt/Lt Tony Cooper, Harrowbeer ,1944;
-
Mk.IXc, MJ738 / KJ-R, 4 Sqn SAAF, Capt P.C.R. Burger, Italy, 1944;
-
Mk.IXb, RK917 / DB, Gp Capt Douglas Bader, Essex Sector Gp Commander;
-
Mk.IXe*, MK304 / Y2-K, 442 (RCAF), Sqn Flt/Lt A Rosy Roseland, St.Croix Sur Mer, 1944;
-
Mk.IXc*, MK304 / 5J-L, 126 Sqn, Flt Sgt Hinton, RAF Upottery, 1944;*
-
Mk.IXe, WD-M, 4 FS, 52 FG, USAF, Corsica, 1944; and
-
Mk.IXc, VF-AA, 5FS, 52 FG, USAF, Corsica 1944.
Two different aircraft, the Mk.IXc and Mk.IXe indicated by an asterisk * above, share the same serial number MK304, which is presumably a printing error. The serial number NH346 appears on the decal sheet but is unmentioned in the placement guide; I suspect this in fact is the correct for Mk.IXe coded Y2-K.
The coloured placement guide provides port and starboard profiles for each of the subjects, along with small upper and lower surface plan views. Several of the schemes include modeller’s notes providing useful information covering things like features not illustrated, matters easily overlooked, or uncertainty concerning original colours etc.
The Decals
The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. They appear superbly well printed, with excellent colour density and registration.
