A high quality decal release for any of the many existing 1/48 scale bubbletop Mustang kits or the forthcoming Airfix P-51D. Highly Recommended.

FirstLook

 

Xtradecal has released a new 1/48 scale two-part collection for bubbletop Mustangs. These decals are offered with the forthcoming kit in mind, but they are equally suitable for any P-51D/K / F-51D / CA-18 kit currently available.

We're taking a look at Part One tonight.

 

 

All five of the subjects are finshed in bare metal and/or silver dope, with a nice selection of colourful national markings and unique markings. A broad selection of nationalities are covered.

Details are as follows:

  • P-51D Mustang - KH727 DJ-V 93 Sqn Italy 1946;

    P-51D Mustang - 44-13431 QP-E 'Little Eva' Capt J.Sully Varnell 2 FS, 52 FG USAAF Italy 1944

    P-51D Mustang - NZ2419 19 2(Wellington) Sqn RNZAF late 1940s;

    P-51D Mustang - 9566 VC-FBN Experimental and Proving Establishment, RCAF Uplands 1950's;

    CA-18 Mustang - A68-71 HU-A 78 Sqn RAAF 1946

One full set each of USAF, post-war RNZAF (the same as RAF D Type roundels), RAAF, RCAF and RAF C/C.1 Type national markings are included.

 

 

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded double-sided A4 and one A5 sheet. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all five aircraft. Stencils are not included.

Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

 

 

This release offers some lesser-known options for modellers with a Mustang kit or five kit already in their collection or who are planning to buy the Airfix 1/48 scale kit when it is released later this year.
