LifeLike Decals has released a new set of 1/48 scale decals with four very colourful and varied markings for Tamiya's P-51B and D kits.

Details of the specific aircraft are as follows:

  • P-51D-10-NA, Lt. Col. Roy Blair Caviness, Commander of 78 FG, Duxford, August 1945. Bare metal overall (possible aluminium painted wings - check references). This aircraft has black and white checked nose and rudder with a red outline. Spinner is halved black and white with a red base plate. Canopy frame is yellow with kill markings. Large lettering on the side "Contrary Mary".

  • P-51D-15-NA, Capt. John Crump, 360 FS, 356 FG, Martlesham Heath, April 1945. Bare metal overall (possible aluminium painted wings - check references). This aircraft features a red nose with black diamonds, a red rudder and canopy frame. Large letters Jacki and artwork on port side. Greyed-out national markings Black theatre stripes on wings and tail planes.

  • P-51B-5-NA, Capt. Burton N. Rodier Jr., 26 FS, 51 FG, Kumming China, September 1944. Neutral Grey lower surfaces and Olive Drab upper surfaces. The aircraft has a large shark's mouth and the name "Jeanne III" in yellow on the port side nose. Also has placar reading "Los Angeles City Limits" on port mid-fuselage, and yellow stripes on the tail and fuselage.

  • P-51D-10-NA, Lt. Urban Leonard Drew, 375FS, 361 FG, Little Walden, October 1944. Bare metal overall (possible aluminium painted wings - check references). This aircraft features a yellow nose and spinner with blue rudder, canopy frame (with kill markings) and wing tips. "Detroit Miss" name in red capsule on the port side nose. Greyed out national markings. Black theatre stripes on wings.

Two folded A4 pages plus an A5 page are included in the resealable plastic bag. The first doubles as the cover and the profile page. Data on colours, markings and operations are included.

The decals are printed by Microscale and appear to be in perfect register. Colours look good too. There is a full-sized sheet for the unique markings, with two smaller sheets.

This a high quality release for Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-51B and D Mustang kits.

Thanks to Lifelike Decals for these samples.
