PJ Production is a Belgian company that makes a wide range of resin figures and accessories, and a smaller number of resin aircraft and vehicle kits. Figures are available in 1/72, 1/48, 1/32 and 1/24 scales, with Mark Davies positively reviewing a set of 1/72 ground crew figures in early 2016.
This 1/32 US Navy World War II pilot is a more substantial offering, with the larger scale allowing greater scope for detail. The seated pilot is wearing what appears to a cotton or corduroy flying suit, with a life jacket and safety harness over the top. The pilot’s head is tilted slightly to the left, as if he is speaking with someone from the cockpit, and his flight goggles are pushed up onto his forehead. His face has a neutral expression, with key features finely captured. The right hand is posed to fit around a control column, while the left is resting on the pilot’s leg. Careful painting will be needed to bring out the best of this detail.
The set has only three parts – a single head, trunk and legs, and separate arms. A test fit suggests these will join to the body with minimal gaps to fill. Overall casting quality is high, with no air bubbles or other imperfections. Attachments to casting blocks are minimal, and more akin to injection moulded plastic than cast resin parts.
This simplicity of construction means that no instructions are necessary. The only guide provided is a photo of the assembled and painted figure on the box. However, if you want more detail there are plenty of references available online.
This pilot figure from PJ Productions is a simple way of dressing up your 1/32 US Navy fighter. Highly recommended to modellers of all skill levels, as the set would be a good introduction to anyone who hasn’t previously worked with resin as a medium.
Thanks to PJ Production for the samples and images.
