Conclusion |
Having spent a long time cutting, appplying and removing my own custom-made masks for Meng's F-35A, I only wish that Galaxy Model's die-cut masks were available a few months ago! These are a time saving blessing for anyone building Meng's new 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II. |

I built Meng's 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II earlier this year. This is a good kit with a high level of detail and excellent fit.
By far the most challenging and time consuming part of the project was masking the RAM boundary panels. I used a combination of Tamiya masking tape and self-adhesive foil, cut to shape both on and off the model. Once I thought that I had finished the heavy lifting with the masks in place, removing the foil proved to be just as much of a challenge.
Galaxy Model from China has now addressed this issue with its new self-adhesive die-cut masking set. This contains masks for upper and lower surface RAM boundaries.
There are 221 individual masks on the A4-sized sheet. The masking sheet is a material similar to the Kabuki masks offered by companies including Tamiya and Eduard.
Where space permits, the mask numbers are printed on the individual masks. This is a thoughtful touch that will help the modeller keep track of the many masks.
Full colour photographic instructions are supplied on a folded glossy A4 sheet. This includes upper and lower plan views, plus the wings, tailplanes and eight detail scrap views.
An A5 clear self-adhesive masking sheet is also included, but this is not mentioned in the instructions.
Having spent a long time cutting, appplying and removing my own custom-made masks for Meng's F-35A, I only wish that Galaxy Model's die-cut masks were available a few months ago!
These are a time saving blessing for anyone building Meng's new 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II.
Thanks to Galaxy Model for the sample.
