When this kit was announced last year, I was quite excited: a Sea Hurricane Mk.II in my favorite scale at last! Having no experience about kits from “Fly”, I expected a decent short-run product, hoping to find a reasonable mixture of styrene, resin and etched parts not unexpected to be found in such kits.
I would not have been disappointed. The plastic parts have been moulded with impressive quality, representing all the various structures common to a Hurricanes surface in a very satisfying way.
Resin and etched parts mainly serve to detail cockpit and wheel/ wheel wells areas.
To make a Sea Hurricane out of the kits content, some serious surgery must be tackled. The fuselages rear has to be cut out to get the arrester hook area, made from resin, fit with the fuselages shape.
Besides that, assembly was rather easy and straight forward.
The decals have been a little bit tricky to work with, because they seemed to be glued to the spot where they first touched the models surface…. Not an unknown phenomenon with some decals, but nevertheless I was happy when everything was on the right place.
Otherwise, the decals are of very convincing quality.
My model shows a Sea Hurricane Mk.IIc stationed on the HMS Nairana, a carrier stationed in the northern Atlantic in 1944.
