Eduard's BRASSIN 1/32 scale
F4U-1A Corsair Cockpit

Eduard's BRASSIN 1/32 scale F4U-1A Cockpit Set

Meng's 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II is available online from Squadron for USD$59.99

Description

Here's what I have been working on for the last week - Eduard's BRASSIN 1/32 scale F4U-1A Corsair cockpit. Detail is fantastic, and the parts fit well.

I'm actually fitting the cockpit to the new Tamiya F4U-1D kit but I think the -1A cockpit should be 90%+ appropriate for this type too. I have made a point of painting the sidewalls black from the consoles up, as this seems to be a feature of -1Ds.

I found that it was helpful to have additional references on hand for the placement of some of the detail parts. The extra research is worth the time and effort.

The photo-etched harness was replaced with Eduard's Fabric F4U Seat Belts (Item No. 32 791).

I also used the pre-painted, self-adhesive instrument panel from Eduard's ZOOM F4U-1A Interior Set, Item No. 33144.

I have employed some of the decals from BarracudaCals' excellent Cockpit Placards and Stencils decal set too. These worked remarkably well, especially when settling down over the tiny mountain range of switches and buttons on the starboard side console. It was a good test for the new formula Solvaset as well (it passed with flying colours)!

I've test fitted the cockpit in the kit. As a result, I shortened the sidewalls and tub by a couple of millimetres (at the back) and I will most likely install the rear bulkhead separately before I fit the rest of the cockpit. It all looks like it will fit well though.

I’m building this for the forthcoming book “How To Build Tamiya’s 1:32 F4U-1A and F4U-1D Corsair”.
