This is a welcome set to compliment the rather good limited run Pavla kit and the 50 year old Revell kit (re-boxed by Classic Plane, Lodela and Takara).

The Decals

The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are very nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject.

A list of Xtracolor and Xtracrylix paint codes is also provided for the colours required.

Modeller’s notes advise on whether a wooden or metal propeller was fitted, and also mention larger tyres being fitted in one case and a silver doped lower wing in another.

The specific subjects covered are:

  • BuNo 07103, 103, USN, NAS Corpus Christi, 1943;

  • BuNo 39123, 73, US Navy, 1944;

  • BuNo 29950, 241, US Navy, NAS Grosse Ile, MI, USA;

  • Yellow 127, USAAC, 1940;

  • Yellow BL-17, USAAC 1940;

  • BuNo 216546, USAAF, Kumming, China 1943;

  • FJ888, 36 Elementary Flying Training School RCAF, RAF Pearce, Alberta, Canada, 1942;

  • H829/829 USAAC unknown base, 1940’s;

  • 404, Fueza Aerea del Peru, Santiagi de Surco, Las Palmas, Peru 1940;

  • 33, Guerpo Aeronautica Militar, Ciudad de Guatemala, La Aurora, Guatemala 1943;

  • 215977, Republic of China Air Force, 19423; and

  • 31, Flying School, Zroa HaAvir Vehahalal, Kfir Sirtain, Israel 1963.

The decals appear superbly well printed by Microscale Decals, with excellent colour density and registration. The sheet reviewed here covers nine options; some of which are quite colourful, and all interesting in my opinion.
