TThis is an interesting set featuring three types of Luftwaffe reconnaissance fighters; the Bf 109, Bf 110 and Fw 190. It offers a variety of colour schemes and markings, some of which are quite unusual.

The Decals

The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are very nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject.

A list of Xtracolor and Xtracrylix paint codes is also provided for the colours required along with applicable RLM codes.

In several cases modeller’s notes advise on specific aspects of the colour scheme or, in the case of one Bf 110D-4, mention is made of the carriage of 900 litre drop tanks and a75 litre oil tank.

The specific subjects covered are:

  • Bf-109F-6 R2, F6+TH, 1.(F)y/122, Sardinia, 1942;

  • Bf-109F-4 R2, T5+TL, Aufklarunsgruppe (F), Ob.d.L, Kharkov, 1942;

  • Bf-109G-3 R2, White 13, NAGr.11, Mediterranean, 1942;

  • Bf-109G-8 R2, Red 4 N5+DK, Nahauufklarungsgruppe, Bromberg, 1945;

  • Bf-109G-10/R2, 12+5F, 2./AGr 14, Furth, Germany, 1945;

  • Fw-190A-3/U4, Red 9, 5.(F)/123, St.Pol, France, 1943;

  • Fw-190A-3/U4, Red 10, 5.(F)/123, St.Pol, France, 1943;

  • Fw-190A-4/U4, Red 6, Unit unknown but probably based in Sicily, 1943;

  • Fw-190A-4/U4, <+-, Stabskette/NAGr.13, Dinard, France, 1943;

  • Bf-110E-3/U2, 5F+MM, 4.(F)/14, Cherbourg, 1940;

The decals appear superbly well printed by Microscale Decals, with excellent colour density and registration.

The sheet reviewed here covers nine options; some of which are quite colourful, and all interesting in my opinion.
