Xtradecal has recently released a new series of 1/48 scale decal sets covering ten very interesting Luftwaffe Fighter Reconnaissance aircraft.

The subjects comprise four Messerschmitt Bf 109 F and Gs, three Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-3 and 4s, and two Messerschmitt Bf 110 D and Es.

Details are as follows:

  • Bf 109F-6 F6 +TH 1.(F)y/122 Sardinia 1942. Finished in RLM 74/75/76 greys with white theatre markings and an RLM 70 Black Green and White thirded spinner. This aircraft features a really interesting wide, soft sawtooth camouflage demarcation on the upper wings and tail planes.

  • Bf 109F-4 R2 T5+TL Aufklarunsgruppe(F) Ob.d.L Kharkov 1942. Finished in RLM 74/75/76 greys with yellow theatre markings and an unusual mottled spinner with two narrow white stripes.

  • Bf 109G-8 R2 White 14 2/NAGr12 Albania 1944 Hmpt Heimo Emmerstorfer. Appears to be overall RLM 76 Light Blue with a heavy application of RLM 74 Grey Green over the side and upper surfaces.

  • Bf 109G-8 R2 Red 4 N5+DK Nahauufklarungsgruppe Bromberg, 1945. Finished in RLM 76 Light Blue lower surfaces with RLM 75 Grey Violet and a much lighter shade as the disruptive upper surface colour and side mottle. Instructions suggest that pale colour is RLM 77. Spinner is black with a white spiral.

  • Fw 190A-3/U4 Red 9 and 10 5.(F)/123 St.Pol France 1943. Finished in RLM 74/75/76 greys with yellow theatre markings (similar finishes to all the Fw 190s, with the main differences being the fuselage mottles).

  • Fw 190A-4/U4 Red 6 Unit unknown probably based Sicily 1943;

  • Fw 190A-4/U4 <+- and Black 2 Stabskette/NAGr.13 Dinard France 1943;

  • Bf 110E-3/U2 5F+MM 4.(F)/14 Cherbourg, 1940. Finished in RLM 02 Grey and RLM 71 Dark Green over RLM 65 Light Blue. Fitted with two 900 litre wing tanks and the 75 litre auxilliary oil tank under the fuselage.

  • Bf 110D-4/U2 3Z+RL Wekusta 76 Eastern Front 1941. Finished in RLM 74/75/76 greys

All aircraft feature downward-looking fuselage cameras, so you'll need to source or scratch build the fairings.

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across two folded A4 sheets. Both side views and upper/lower views are provided for all aircraft.

Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The single decal sheet is beautifully printed and features thin carrier film.

I do like these themed decal sheets with multiple aircraft subjects. I think that it makes it more liklely that the modeller will build more than one of these very interesting Luftwaffe Reconnaissance Fighters.

Highly Recommended.
