The fifth release in the Airframe Extra series by Valiant Wings covers the Spanish Civil war in details. This release is covered in 88 pages within an A4 style magazine. The books covers the aerial protagonists from this period in historical prose, period photographs of subjects, colour profiles and 1/48th and 1/72nd builds by well know modellers Steve Evans and Libor Jekl.
The contents of the book are as follows:
-
Covers aerial operations by both Republican and Nationalist forces between 17th July 1936 and 1st April 1939.
-
Historical narrative by Patrick Branly
-
Numerous period images
-
50 colour profiles by Richard Caruana
-
Specially commissioned kit builds:
-
1/48th Fonderie Miniatures Dewoitine D.510 (Republican) and Roden 1/48th Heinkel He-51B.1 (Nationalist/Condor Legion) by Steve A. Evan
-
1/72 Azur Polikarpov I-15 (Republican) and Special Hobby Junkers Ju-87A-1 (nationalist/Condor Legion) by Libor Jekl
-
1/72 RS Models Dornier Do-17E (Nationalist/Condor Legion) by Steve Evans
I really like this series of books. The combination of excellent historical information, period photos and builds of contemporary kits by respected builders makes this a very helpful publication. This is a great ‘go to’ book for initial information on the subject and if you’re looking to build a subject from this period then the profiles and informative build articles will certainly help. A very handy book to have on the shelves.
Recommended.
