Advantages:

Generic nature enables many roles and services to be represented.

Disadvantages:

Recommendation:

We are lucky to have PJ’s range of aircrew, as many aftermarket accessory companies do not bother with personnel, whilst most kit offerings leave much to be desired. Cast resin is also an ideal medium for small figures, with superior results compared to injection moulding.

Ground crew figures can be even rarer than pilots, so I think many will welcome this latest set, especially as their generic nature makes them adaptable to a variety of roles and services. I definitely recommend it.

FirstLook

PJ Production offers a substantial range of resin aircrew in the “One True Scale” (and various heretic scales too), covering various periods and air forces. They have now expanded their range with the set of five resin ground crew figures reviewed here.

The group comes packaged in a simple zip-lock plastic bag with card header.

Unlike PJ’s aircrew figures, the ground crew are not attributed to any particular period or nationality. However, being generic they can be painted to represent many different nationalities and periods, or easily adapted to represent other roles like vehicle mechanics etc. They are all dressed in overalls, and only one is wearing ear protectors, so four are not suited to dioramas with engines running without some modification.

There are no instructions, but then none are needed. The picture inserted in the pack provides one example of how they can be painted. The figures are nicely mastered in a variety of poses, with three having separate posable arms. The parts are all good quality and easily removed from their pour-stubs.

Conclusion

We are fortunate to have PJ’s range of aircrew, as many aftermarket accessory companies do not bother with personnel, whilst most kit offerings leave much to be desired. Cast resin is also an ideal medium for small figures, with superior results compared to injection moulding.

Ground crew figures can be even rarer than pilots, so I think many will welcome this latest set, especially as their generic nature makes them adaptable to a variety of roles and services. I definitely recommend it.

Thanks to PJ Production for the samples and images.
