I’ve known Roy Sutherland for quite a few years and if you know one thing about him it is that he loves the Spitfire. It is ‘his’ aircraft. Luckily for us modelers because its a special aircraft to him he has poured lot of love and his own personal touch to the Eduard kits. Why do a complete resin replacement cockpit when the kit cockpit is nice? That is what BarracudaCast thought. Just provide better parts with more detail to modify the cockpit.
This set is designed for the Mk.IX but the parts can be easily used in the Mk.XVI. The set is packaged on card stock in a ziplock bag that has a cockpit door, seat, stick, gunsight, film dials, and decal placards. Most of the set is made up of caramel resin but it also has an instrument panel film for those that don’t like the pre-painted ones. The parts are easily removed and replace the kit parts. There is very little clean up required. I especially liked the seat which has the belts molded on and draped realistically. The separate piece fits nicely into the cutout on the armor panel. I did add the remainder of the shoulder harness with masking tape. I thought it looked pretty convincing. The side wall detail is a nice improvement without a lot of cutting and hacking.
One of the special items of this set is the inclusion of placards and stencil decals. They really add a dimension to the cockpit and should be included in any Spitfire kit.
I used my set on a Mk.XVI that I had on the bench and I really like the way that it looked. They have since released a Mk.XVI set specifically designed for that kit, but I couldn’t wait. I’m very happy with this set and I can see myself using more of these Snapshot upgrades. I think it is a great concept.
Highly Recommended.
