Kitty Hawk's 1/48 scale MiG-25PDS is available online from Squadron
This is the Mig-25PDS Foxbat variant from the Iraqi Air Force (IrAF), serial number 25211, piloted by Lieutenant Zuhair Dawood, which, at the begining of the Gulf War I in 1991, shot down an US Navy F/A-18 Hornet using one of its R-40 Vympel (Codename “Acrid”) missiles
The Kit
Humm what can i say….
I was so happy when this new tool variant of the Foxbat was announced two years ago that I picked one up quickly. I was very very hopeful…

Nothing made me suspect what was waiting for me.
Even though its moulding is thoroughly modern, I realized that the model is full of errors.
In my opinion the model is not worth the $75 asking price, so my recommendation it’s NOT BUY this model and wait for the forthcoming new tooled AMK and ICM in 1/48 scale.
Improving the Model
I added some scratch details, reshape of the engine exhaust (incorrect for the PD Variant), also some work in the main wheel Wells and landing gear, also I added some aftermarket upgrade sets like :
-
Neomega’s cockpit set.
-
Metalic landing gear.
-
Armory’s made wheels.
-
Armory’s Pitot tube.
-
Eduard’s exterior Photoetched set.
-
Plusmodel’s R-40 Missiles.
-
Aerobonus resin pilot (seated) figure
-
Photoetched ladder.
-
Eduard’s intakes and FOD covers.
-
Linden Hill’s Irakien decals.
For painting the model, I used different paints, with airbrush and brush, like:
-
Humbrol’s Enamel Paint (interiors)
-
Alclad (Exhausts)
-
Vallejo Acrylics (Ejection seat, pilot figure and ladder)
-
Tamiya Acrylics (Fuselage)
-
Mr. Hobby Acrylics (Fuselage)
-
AK Acrylics (Varnish)

For weathering the model I used different techniques: Preshading, lights, washes, sponge paint chipping, pigments and some oils.

This stage is the most entertaining for me, because the paint job comes alive, especially when the final scheme is monochrome like in this case.
I hope you enjoy the model.
