Xtradecal's 1/72 scale RAF BAC Jet Provost T.5 is available online from Squadron.com
It comes as no surprise that Xtradecal should release some colourful options to follow Sword’s recent release of their new tool Jet Provost T.5 kit (reviewed here on HyperScale in October this year). And of course, the markings are equally suitable for use with the still nice old Airfix kit and the more basic offering by Matchbox.
This sheet is focused on RAF Jet Provosts, although no doubt there will also be a foreign operators release that will cover Strikemasters as well.
The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject. Unsurprisingly, a list of Xtracolor paint codes is also provided for the colours required as well as their BSC381C codes.
The decals look to be superbly printed with excellent colour density and registration. Another plus is that the comparatively elaborate striping applicable to several schemes is also included; thus eliminating quite a bit of tricky masking.
The sheet reviewed here covers eleven options; all of which are most appealing in my opinion. It should appeal to fans of aerobatic display teams as five are included, these being aircraft from the Linton Blades, Gemini Pair, The Swords, The Poachers and Red Pelicans.
The specific subjects covered are:
-
XW230, T.5 Prototype, Boscombe Down 1975, with grey lower surfaces;
-
XW230, T.5 Prototype, Boscombe Down 1995, with blue lower surfaces;
-
XW290/83, Central Flying School, Red Pelicans Team, RAF Little Rissington 1972;
-
XW310/70, 1 FTS, Linton Blades Team;
-
XW320, 1 FTS, Flt Lt D.I.Whittingham, RAF Linton-on-Ouse;
-
XW322/I, RAF College, Cranwell, flown by HRH Prince Charles;
-
XW325/E, 6 FTS, RAF Finningley 1983;
-
XW375/90, The Poachers Team, RAF Cranwell 1971;
-
XW404/77, 1 FTS, RAF Linton-on-Ouse 1980;
-
XW407/50, 3 FTS, Gemini Pair Team, RAF Leeming 1973;
-
XW428/54, 3 FTS, The Swords Team, RAF Leeming 1974.
These are superbly produced decals. They provide some interesting and colourful options for any of the available Jet Provost T.5 kits; I highly recommend them.
Highly Recommended.
