Xtradecal has recently released a new series of 1/48 scale decal sets covering modern RAF jets in special schemes.
The subject of tonight's review is Item No. X48154 - RAF Update 2014-15 Pt. 1.
The four subjects cover three Eurofighter Typhoons and one Tornado in Battle of Britain and 100th Anniversary schemes.
Details are as follows:
-
BAE Tornado GR.4 ZA461 XV(R) Sqn 100th Anniversary. Wg. Cdr Jon Nixon/Sqn Ldr Conan Mullineux with red fin RAF Lossiemouth
-
Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 ZJ925/DXI XI(F) Sqn 100th Anniversary. Wg. Cdr C. Layden with black fin RAF Coningsby;
-
Typhoon FGR.4 ZK349 GN-A 29(F) Squadron Flt Lt B. Westoby-Brooks RAF Coningsby in markings carried by Hurricane of 249 Sqn flown by Flt Lt E.J.B.Nicholson VC the only VC in the Battle of Britain.
-
Typhoon FGR.4 ZK353 /BQ 29(F) Sqn 100th Anniversary. Flt Lt Jonny Dowen with crimson fin RAF Coningsby
Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded A4 sheets. Both side views are provided for all aircraft.
A further double-sided A4 sheet offers four large photos of the subject aircraft making a nice one-stop-shop reference and decal package
Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.
The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film. The markings for the eagle and the lionare printed in metallic ink.
There is one full-sized decal sheet and another smaller sheet with gold markings for one of the Typhoon's canards.
I do like these themed decal sheets with multiple aircraft subjects. I think it is liklely that the modeller will build more than one of these very interesting modern RAF jets.
Highly Recommended.
