Review Type:

First Look.

Advantages:

High quality production, good clear instructions.

Disadvantages:

May be a case of “gilding the lily”.

Conclusions:

I can recommend this set based on its undoubted quality and the visual improvement it will offer many modellers; but I also accept it that there may not be enough improvement of the base kit to justify the outlay in the minds of others.

Resin Improvement has quite an extensive range of detail and conversion parts in resin and both coloured and plain PE; they also offer and pre-cut paint masks. Their PE products are manufactured by Eduard, so the quality is automatically good, and I assume Eduard is behind the paint masks and resin as well, as their quality is certainly excellent as well.

The PE set comes in a resealable cellophane bag with card stiffener and well-drawn diagrammatic instructions. The set is intended for the Valom Fouga Magister, which I reviewed here on HyperScale in March 2104.It is a highly detailed kit OOB, with PE and resin parts; in fact, with the smallest resin parts I have ever encountered. Even so, Res-IM have managed to improve on what the kit has to offer, largely through the provision of coloured PE panels and harnesses for the cockpit.

It also supplies some items that the kit already offers PE parts for, such as the ventral fin and control actuators, plus wing spoilers that the kit does not include.

Valom’s CM 170 is a kit in little need of enhancement, as it already has plenty of fine details, many provided as PE parts. However, Res-IM’s PE is perhaps marginally more refined than Valom’s, and offers the real benefit in this scale of pre-coloured panels and harnesses. So the benefits are there, and will appeal to some, but it is a little bit of case of “gilding the lily” in my opinion, and may not justify the expense in the minds of some.

Conclusion

I can recommend this set based on its undoubted quality and the visual improvement it will offer many modellers; but I also accept it that there may not be enough improvement of the base kit to justify the outlay in the minds of others.

Recommended.
