Eduard BRASSIN WGr.21 for Bf 109 G will be available online from Squadron.com
This simple set from Czech aftermarket company Plus Model contains two Vietnam-era United States UH-1 crewmen. It consists of three resin parts: one single-piece crewman and one crewman with a separate right arm that will need to be attached and blended in.
Cleanup should be straightforward. Both figures are attached to casting blocks by thin strips of resin on the soles of their boots. The arm is attached to its block by a similar strip at the armpit, which will be hidden from view once glued to the figure. Casting quality is excellent. There are no imperfections or flash, and once the parts are separated from their blocks they require no further preparation other than a wash in warm water and detergent to remove any mould release agent.
Detail is impressive. I’ll leave analysis of the clothing and equipment depicted to those with greater knowledge of the subject, but the drape of cloth and stance of the figures looks convincing to me. One crewman is wearing a cap while the other has a bandana tied around his head. Both wear flak jackets and have pistols and knives attached to their waists. The separate arm even has a finely cast cigarette held between its fingertips!
There are no assembly instructions – these would be superfluous – but there is a helpfully large, full-colour painting guide. This depicts the crew wearing insignia of the First Air Cavalry Division; it would have been nice to have these and some insignia from other units included as decals, as I’ve been unable to locate any that are available separately in 1/48 scale.
These are well-produced figures that with careful clean up, assembly and painting will add a further point of interest to your 1/48 UH-1 diorama or vignette. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Plus Model for the samples and images.
