Advantages: |
Superb quality |
Disadvantages: |
It is unclear which Revell kit, and therefore which version of JAS-39, they are suitable for |
Recommendation: |
These excellent quality detail wheels should enhance any brand of JAS-39A or B kit in The One True Scale, but are not suitable for a JAS-39C or D model as these versions have much larger main wheels. I therefore recommended them only for the earlier JAS-39A & B Gripens |

For many Eduard is a brand name synonymous with superb quality, and this is certainly the case with the item reviewed here, from the packaging and instructions, to the actual components. The single parts come packed in a clear blister pack with foam cushioning and include printed instructions. The instructions are also downloadable in as a PDF from Eduard’s website, to view these please click here.
This set provides replacement nose and main wheels for Revell’s 1/72 JAS-39 kit; but regrettably, Eduard does not advise which one. This matters because Revell has released both a JAS-39A and C kits, and the JAS-39C has much larger main wheels.
Revell’s first Gripen kit was released in 1989, and was I think based on the Gripen prototype. This tooling, or one very similar to it, was shared with Italeri as the basis for a JAS-39 A and B, and has also been re-boxed by Tamiya, Airfix, and Bilek. Revell has just released a new tool JAS-39C, which like the real aircraft, features larger main wheels.
I have compared the wheels reviewed here to both the new Revell JAS-39C kit and the Maestro Models JAS-39C/D conversion for the JAS-39A kits. As a result, I conclude that the Brassin wheels are suitable for use with JAS-39A & B kits, as they are a lot smaller than the wheels in both the new Revell JAS-39C kit and Maestro Models JAS-39C/D conversion.
They are beautifully cast and have easily removable pouring-blocks. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this adage certainly applies to this “first look”. Eduard’s CAD illustration, my images of the actual parts, and the downloadable instructions should provide readers with almost all they need to about the contents.
