Advantages: |
A very comprehensive photo-etched set that will certainly add a good amount of fidelity to the kit. |
Disadvantages: |
Some very small items on the frets that will easily disappear into the carpet monster. Take care when removing them. Some parts will be superfluous if closing some parts of the fuselage but the majority can be used. |
Conclusion: |
This is a very comprehensive set that provides a generous amount of etch all over the airframe. |

Eduard's 1/48 scale F-14A Upgrade Set is available online from Squadron.com
I recently reviewed the Eduard re-box of the 1/48 Hobbyboss F-14A as the ‘Danger Zone’ limited edition release. In the box a generous amount of plastic, resin, decals and pre-painted and unpainted photo etch was supplied.
Adding to the already generous amount of etch supplied in the kit, this set provides much more extensive upgrades to the exterior airframe over the plastic kit options. In many cases the kit parts are enhanced with the addition of the etch items.
The ares of upgrade are:
-
AN/AWG-9 radar
-
Nose wheel well/undercarriage
-
Canopy turtle deck
-
Air/air refuelling probe
-
RIO instrument coaming
-
M61 gatling gun and bay
-
Air brakes
-
Chaff/flare dispensers
-
Low voltage formation lights
-
Crew access steps and ladder
-
Undercarriage door hinges
-
Undercarriage bake lines
-
Arrestor hook
-
Missile rails
This is a very thorough addition to an already great base kit. If you’ve not opted for the Eduard ‘Danger Zone’ boxing this will be a great addition for those with the original Hobbyboss boxing of the.
There are a few small parts that will need a deft touch when applying but overall, this will certainly add some interest to the kit if you’re after a ‘being maintained’ type look.
Recommended.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
