The Breda Ba88 has the unenviable reputation of being one of the few aircraft which late in its career went from the manufacturing plant straight to the scrap yard! It had become obsolete during the completion of its contract and never saw extensive action. It is a pity because it is one of the most elegant looking aircraft.
There have been more than one issue in 1:72nd scale with the more recent in resin from Planet and followed by the very well made injection moulded version from Special Hobby. I had a couple of old CMK resin test shots dating back two decades which I eventually finished. Although they were quite acceptable for their time, they are nowhere near the level of current production.
Versions modelled are for an example in the early Schema Continentale and the other in the widely illustrated tropical version. On my examples, only the main components were available and cockpit interiors and undercarriage detail is mostly scratchbuilt. I like to keep panel lines subdued especially in this scale and these are collection models so weathering is very little or none at all.
Considering these examples came from test moulds, they went together fairly well and were a welcome addition to the Italian section of my collection.
