SuperScale Internationals' 1/32 scale P-61B Decals are available online from
SuperScale International has produced two aftermarket decal sets for the HobbyBoss 1/32 P-61B Black Widow, each set offering three schemes for all-black aircraft.
The kit itself, released earlier this year, carried two decal options and while the model was widely regarded, the decal options were seen as somewhat basic and limiting. SuperScale International has some market potential here with two separate sheets of decals produced by Cartograf of Italy, so we know the quality is world class.
Sheet #MS320262 features three all black options of P-61B Black Widows of the 548th NFS based on Iwo Jima:
“Lady in the Dark”, P-61B-1-NO s/n 42-39408.
“Midnight Madness”, P-61B-1-NO s/n 42-39404
“Cooper’s Snooper”, P-61B-2-NO s/n 42-39454
Sheet # MS 320263 features three all black machines of the 414th NFS, the 422nd NFS and the 418th NFS. The options are:
“First Nighter”, P-61B-15 s/n 42-39532, 414th NFS, Pontedera, Italy.
Little Audrey”, P-61B-15, s/n 42-39672, 422nd NFS, France 1944.
“Black Panther”, P-61B-15, s/n 42-359586, 41th NFS, Morotai Island, Indonesia, 1944.
The decals are beautifully produced, in perfect register and commendably thin.
Given the limitations of an all over black scheme, these decals are really enhanced by the colourful nose art. Full colour instructions augment the package
Thanks to Squadron for the samples and composite images.
