Before writing this review I had a look around the net at some of the images available of the F-82. It quickly became apparent that a large proportion of F-82s that served with the US Air Force had some sort of artwork or name adorned on them. Printscale’s 1/72 F-82 Twin Mustang decal sheet keeps in that tradition.

This is the third set of Printscale decals that I have reviewed and I still haven’t been able to fault the quality of their work. The carrier film is barely noticeable and extremely thin. The artwork is crisp and clear and the colours are vibrant. The decals have a satin appearance on the sheet.

Six decal options are supplied on the sheet and they are:

  1. North American F-82F Twin Mustang 46-479/FQ-479. ‘Hard Luck’, 5th F(AW)S, USAF. Mitchell AFB, 1949. Overall Gloss Black

  2. North American F-82G Twin Mustang 46-363/FQ-363. 68th F(AW)S, USAF. Korea, 1950. Overall Gloss Black.

  3. North American F-82G Twin Mustang 46-477/FQ-477. No.318 F(AW)S, USAF. McChord AFB, 1949. Overall Gloss Black.

  4. North American F-82G Twin Mustang 46-403/FQ-403. 4th F(AW)S, USAF. Overall Gloss Black.

  5. ‘Midnight Sinner’, F-82G, 46-390, 4th F(AW)S, Naha AB, Okinawa, summer 1950. Overall Gloss Black.

  6. ‘Call Girl’ was Colonel John Sharpe’s F-82G when he commanded the 4th F(AW)S at Naha, Okinawa during 1950.

Although the F-82 had a brief career, it is great to see that Printscale are producing decals for some of the less covered subjects.

For something with a bit of “road less travelled” about it, I’d recommend getting a set of these and paring it with the old Monogram kit or the more recent Special Hobby offering.

Thanks to Printscale Decals for the review sample.
