Background

Envisioned in the early 1970s as a tactical fighter to serve the needs of Frontal Aviation, the MiG-29, was one of the last major weapons programs actively financed by the USSR. Within the Mikoyan design bureau the new aircraft project was referred to as “Program 9.” After refining the design to meet all state requirements, the Type 9-12 variant, was selected for development into a flying prototype and first flew in 1979.

The type 9-13 development of the MiG-29 grew out of a classified program to upgrade ECM capabilities. The ‘Gardeniya-1’ ECM jamming system was housed in an extended dorsal spine, along with an enlarged fuel tank. The 9-13 also featured an associated modified antenna array on the wingtips and tailfins. The first 9-13 flew in 1984 and entered production in 1986.

For a review of the GWH MiG-29 uses this link. As always, Linden Hill Decals provide us with a massive selection of great MiG-29 options. These two MiG-29 packs are specifically designed with the Great Wall Hobby MiG-29s in mind, the sharks’ mouths being specifically designed to fit the GWH kits.

The colours and registration are of the high standard that we have come to expect from Linden Hill. Each option comes with three view full colours drawings, with detailed advice on placement and orientation of the decals. The instructions also include full painting descriptions using AKAN colour callouts. At the back of each instruction sheet is a brief history of the aircraft type (which I have paraphrased in the history section), and painting instructions including variations.

These two decals sets cover options for:

Conclusion

What an excellent choice Linden Hill have provides!

The variety and colourful options should please any MiG-29 modeller, infact there are so many options it’s difficult to choose one, so I guess I’ll have to build a few MiG-29s. We are spoilt for choice.

Thank you Linden Hill Decals.

Highly recommended.

Thanks to Linden Hill Imports for the review samples.
