Yes indeed, but what about the Wonders of the Modelling World?

That is a harder list to compile. I would have Tamiya’s 1/32 scale P-51D Mustang on the list for sure, and now we have a contender for the decal category.

Fantasy Printshop has released a new range of WWII German Luftwaffe Serials.

At first glance, decals printed with letters and numbers might not seem such an impressive feat. However, the achievement here is the sheer breadth of the range.

Over the years, a number of decal companies have released sheets, sometimes double sets, with variations on the Luftwaffe serial letter and number theme. Some have been black, some have been white, some have had outlines. The biggest challenge for any decal manufacturer is the wide variety of sizes, styles and colours. Of course, providing the serials in the three main scales – 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 – is another complication.

Fantasy Printshop has girded its loins and produced no less than 51 new decal sets, all with two full-sized sheets, covering the vast majority of Luftwaffe serial letters in decal form. Although they are ostensibly labelled as 1/72 scale, Fantasy Printshop presents the different sheets in size by millimetre, so you just need to calculate the size you need according to references of your chosen subject and its scale.

Colours for solid and outline styles are White, Black, Yellow, Red, Blue and Yellow.

Most of the sets supply serial letters, but some of the solid black sets offer letters and numbers or numbers alone.

Each set is simply presented as one or two full-sized decal sheets packed with either letters alone or letters and numbers. They are packed into a clear ziplock bag. Instructions are not included, but nor are they necessary.

Printing looks perfect on my sample and decal film is thin. My experience with Fantasy Printshop decals is that they s perform well on the model too.

Conclusion

Perhaps they are not quite on the same scale as the Pyramid of Giza, but Fantasy Printshop’s new WWII German Luftwaffe Serials will nevertheless be a valuable resource to Luftwaffe modellers.

I hope this range is successful, as I would love to see the concept extended to include Luftwaffe Fighter numbers.
