Academy released their 1/48 F-4B Phantom late in 2012 to much fanfare. Since its release, aftermarket producers have been trickling replacement and update sets for the kit onto the market. Eduard has joined the party with a set of wheels and chocks released under their Brassin brand.
Cast in the ubiquitous Eduard grey resin, two main and two nose wheels are supplied. Each set of wheels has a set of companion wheel chocks. Six chocks (three pairs) are supplied in a lemon yellow coloured resin. Casting is first rate and no warping or pin holes evident. The attachment points to the casting blocks are kept to minimum so clean up should not be a problem.
Fidelity of the parts is excellent with fastening bolts, brakes and tyre wall details being very sharp. If I squint I think I can make out a Goodyear logo. The circumferential tread pattern is apparent but not over done. The wheel chocks are of the good quality and when painted and scuffed up will add some visual interest to a model. A set of express masks are also provided to assist with painting.
As the kit supplied wheels and tyres are a multipart affair (in particular the four part main wheels) I recommend that you get a set of these beautifully reproduced single piece wheels for you next 1/48 F-4B Phantom. These will eventually find themselves on mine when the time comes.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
