Eduard continues releasing their Brassin sets and this time they’ve paid attention to a Russian subject. Here we’ll look at their new MiG-21PFM wheels that are suited for their latest MiG-21 kit.

To be expected from Eduard the quality of their casting continues at a high standard. It has to be said that the QA guy at Eduard is getting his keep. The resin is smooth and pinhole free and attachment points are minimal. The nose wheel oleo structure will need to be carefully removed from the pour block as it is the front face of the oleo that the block is attached to.

The main wheels are comprised of three components, the hub, brake housing, and the tyre itself. This method for construction will allow for ease of painting with the supplied paint masks and the centering hole for the axle can be drilled through without concern for drilling too far into the hub. The brake hub is the giveaway that these are designed for the Eduard kit as the holes that are in the brake hubs are keyed vertically to accept the Eduard main gear leg axle.

The nose wheel is supplied in a similar fashion however only the starboard side of the hub is cast into the wheel. The port side is made up of the hub and mounting surface for the fork. Again this will allow painting of all of the components prior to assembly.

The photoetch includes brake cables for the main wheels, cable straps for the oleos and what looks like a static line for the nose wheel.

 

 

Conclusion

 

Sadly some kits don’t pay enough attention to the undercarriage and it’s good to see that Eduard recognises this.

This nicely detailed resin wheel set will add visual interest to an area that can sometime be left wanting. Although designed for the recent Eduard kit these wheels could be easily modified to fit other kits. I recommend them.
