This latest Eduard Brassin set comes in the standard clear plastic container that the smaller sets are supplied in with the parts backed by a foam block to protect the contents while in transit. As always, the parts are well moulded and cast with no flaws. This set is a very simple drop fit replacement with no kit plastic cutting required. The Photo Etch sheet covers some of the door mechanisms and various hydraulic lines. While PE as a hydraulic line is two-dimensional, once in place a small bead of either white glue or CA should add some depth to the lines.
What I would like to see with this product and some other Eduard items, is if some of the research behind the set could be included in the instructions. Why? well Eduard have done the research as they have produce this set with alternative wheel hubs and mudguards so they must know the applications for the variations. I have spent considerable time trying to answer the question, and all I could come up with was that the MiG-23ML had slatted nose wheels.
Probable the most interesting reference I came across was on Youtube. The Cold War Air Museum has three videos covering a MiG-23 extending and retracting the landing gear in a hanger. This is a great reference however, it does not answer why the different wheel hubs.
While I have been rambling on about a lack of information, overall this is a great product to enhance your 1/48 Trumpeter MiG-23. Eduard has responded to reviews by providing painting guides etc, I can only hope that in the future either in the product instructions or on their website, they will provide information to assist the modeller when provided with alternate parts.
Great detail and a very easy drop fit improvement to your Trumpeter MiG-23 Fencer B.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
