Eduard's 1/48 BRASSIN R-60 / AA-8 Aphids are available online from Squadron.com
In the late 1960s the Molniya (now Vympel) design bureau began working on the first tactical missile for air combat, the R-60, with an infrared self-guidance system. With missile production beginning in 1973, the R-60 missile is an unusually small missile, with a correspondingly small warhead.
The R-60 was fitted on aircraft such as the MiG-27, Su-24 or Su-25, were it was used as a self-defence missile, and onto fighter aircraft such as the MiG-23, MiG-25, and Su-15. Further developments of the R-60 include the R-60M (nitrogen cooled seeker), the export variant R-60MK, and the UZR-60 training version. The R-60 has been used on the Mi-24, Su-15bis, Su-17M3, Yak-38, Su-25, Su-24M, MiG-21bis, MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-27, MiG-29 and MiG-31.
This BRASSIN product comes securely packaged in a blister pack, with foam to prevent the parts from being damages in transit.
This is a very simple drop fit weapon system. Eduard provide you with the option of either single or dual rail launchers with enough weapons to outfit one aircraft. The missile bodies are nicely detailed in resin with the forward fins cast in resin that fits into locating holes, while the smaller forward vanes are photo etch and fit into slots.
Eduard also give you the option to jazz up your weapons with remove before flight tags, environmental covers for seeker and fusing sensors plus covers for the rear fins and while I have not seen any images, they provide triangular brown Remove Before Flight tags.
As has now become standard with Eduard’s BRASSIN there is a painting guide.
Here is another quality Air to Air missile from Eduard. External weapons are what make a fighter jet look the part, and these R-60 BRASSIN missiles are far superior to any plastic R-60 that I have seen.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
