Revell's 1/32 scale Arado Ar 196 A-3 is available online from Squadron for only USD$38.69

Description

I have built Revell's great 1/32 scale Arado Ar 196 floatplane kit three times now. I would like to show you the third and last attempt to make something special out of this topic.

After having g got the legal permissions from Revell, a modeling fellow from Germany provided me with blank shapes for the wings, the floats and the horizontal stabilizer she had made of real aluminum.

This effort should enhance the look and persuasive power of the models appearance- and it resulted, in my view, in a quite convincing and startling effect.

Looking at the pictures, it is obvious to me, that my photographic skills cannot match with this effect, but I would like to show you the outcome of this experiment even so.

The aluminum parts, resembling the “real thing”, did apparently boost the appearance and – in a more measurable way - the weight of the kit. To handle this was the main challenge, but at least I had succeeded and got a sturdy and impressive representation of this marvelous floatplane.

By the way: such a “metalized” model can be purchased as a private sale from the collector mentioned above.

As ever, remarks will be appreciated: ro.sachsenhofer@gmx.at
