This is a lovely little aircraft that you can definitely put together in a weekend. The two tan sprues come sealed in a plastic bag and the clear sprue is in its own plastic zip lock bag. Apart from the instructions the only other items left in the box are the decals.

Being a Weekend edition you do not get any photo etch, and you have one set of decals, in this case an L-39C Albatros, 00-0439 (N439RS) of the USAF 412th Test Wing.

This is a lovely little white aircraft with red trim. While we are on the decals it would have been nice if the tip tank nose markings had been included as a decals given their complex form. The white in the stars and Bars looks out of proportion, hard to measure in the scale, but I’ll take advice, I know the blue surround and red should be 1/8th of the radius of the Star, it just looks like the white is too thick.

The L-39 is a sleek two set tandem trainer and even on the ground the L-39 had nice clean lines as all gear doors (apart from the ones attached to the main gear legs) are closed on the ground. No worry here about a lack of wheel well detail as there are no wells on this kit.

The construction is very straightforward, beginning with the cockpit, where detail is provided in the form of decals. Be aware that there are not a lot of locating pins on the major parts so take you time and you should have no problems. All parts have very finely engraved surface detail. The ejection seat is very basic, but this is 1/72. The one disadvantage that I have noted is the elevators. If you intend to display the L-39 on the ground, you will see that with the control lock on, the elevator is in a trailing edge up position. It would have been nice to have two options with the elevators, neutral, for inflight (as supplied) and trailing edge up for an aircraft on the ground.

Conclusion

Overall this is a very nice 1/72 scale kit. To assist you Eduard provides full colour instructions on the Eduard website.

Overall highly recommended to all.

Thanks to Eduard for the sample
