HobbyBoss' 1/48 scale A-7E Corsair II is available online from Squadron

Description

Here is my Hasegawa 1/48 A-7E 'Valions' .

I had started this one back in '06 or '07 and when I got to the LE flaps I sort of ran out of steam with it so it sat on the shelf of doom until last year when I finally dusted it off and decided to finish it.

I used the Eduard PE set (which included the pre-printed/colored cockpit parts). The Eduard set has lots and lots of tiny, fiddly pieces...especially in the landing gear area. It was one of those things were you had to tackle it in small bites or it would overwhelm you. Patience and perseverance paid off, however.

For the intake I used a bit of putty and a lot of sanding (with specially made sanding devices I made using rolled sandpaper and wooden dowels). I used the 'poured paint' method to paint the interior. This took several days to dry (mostly because of the depth of the intake and to make sure it was really, really dried/cured before masking). This is probably one of the smoothest non-resin intakes I've done so far.

The canopy as well needed a bit of attention. The PE set has the bow and side rails and some putty is needed to get the side rails to look appropriately three dimensional. Care in sanding is a definite need here. The kit does not come with ordinance and I had toyed with idea of adding some but I think it looks good without it.

The model was painted with Xtracolor and Tamiya acrylics.

The base was from Hobby Master that they sell for their diecast airplanes.

So there you have it.....another Navy jet for the collection.
