One of the most anticipated releases from Wingnut Wings will be the classic RAF FE2b.
To coincide with this upcoming event, Albatros Publications has provided the enthusiast with an ideal opportunity to enhance their reference library. Enter “RAF FE2b at War”, the latest in the Datafile series.
Way back in 1989, the esteemed Jack Bruce authored the original Datafile on this aircraft. Unfortunately it’s been out of print for some time but this updated study of the popular two-seater is a worthy successor.
The tried and trusted format of the series continues with 40 pages between the A4 sized covers.
Paul Hare provides the narrative and it’s an interesting and entertaining read. The history of the type is discussed as well as the construction and characteristics of this historic “pusher”.
One of the hallmarks of this series is the photographic coverage. This trend continues and naturally there is a wealth of new images that don’t appear in the earlier publication. Amongst the nearly 70 black and white period photographs are another 70+ close-up colour shots of the new reproduction “Fees” in the UK and New Zealand.
Marty Digmayer has been busy and presents 7 pages of superb scale plans. As well as the expected 1:72 and 1:48 scale renditions, many of the internal details have also been covered in the popular size of 1:32...for obvious reasons. These are based on RAF blueprints which will ensure that the modeller gets the high level of accuracy they require.
Ronny Bar supplies more of his inspiring artwork and provides the reader with a total of 7 brand-new aircraft profiles. This includes upper and lower views of one of the options and all subjects show an excellent variety of detail and livery.
Rounding out the publication is a “Camouflage and Markings” section as well as an appendix that tabulates the measurements, performance figures, and past kits of the RAF FE2b.
So once again this popular series delivers on providing the modeller and enthusiast with an excellent all-round coverage of an iconic WWI combatant.
