Model Alliance has produced another excellent decal sheet depicting aircraft of the Royal Navy in 2009. The sheet contains markings for a Harrier GR9, and a Sea King HAS.5U. The decals are available in both 1/72 scale MAS-729051 and 1/48 scale MAS-489051. The decals are designed for the following kits;
Harrier GR9
1/72 Scale Revell or Hasegawa kits
1/48 Scale Hasegawa Kit.
Sea King HAS.5U
1/72 Scale Revell kit
1/48 Scale Revell or Hasegawa kits
The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and register. As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience with Model Alliance Decals in the past has been that the decals snuggle down into the surface detail well. The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.
The schemes provided are as follows:
- BAE Systems Harrier GR9 ZD406 RN 100th Anniversary Scheme of Joint Force Harrier based at RAF Cottlesmore in June 2007. The aircraft is finished in overall BS381C:637 Medium Sea Grey with a gloss Blue, Red and White anniversary painted fin. The words “Fly Navy 100” is painted on the fin.
- Westland Sea King HAS.5U, SNo 771 based at NAS RNAS Culdrose in 2009. The aircraft is finished in overall BS381C:633 Gloss RAF Blue Grey with a large Ace of Clubs painted on the underside of the fuselage.
