Model Alliance has released a fine quality1/32 scale decal sheet depicting Royal Air Force English Electric Lightning Mk.1A, Mk.2 & Mk.3 aircraft.

The decals are superbly printed for Model Alliance by Cartograf of Italy and have good colour saturation and register.  As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience is that the decals snuggle down into the surface detail well.  The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.

The guys have once again done a superb job of the decal artwork and the colour instruction sheet artwork.  The colour instructions give good detail on the colour schemes for all of the aircraft.

The four schemes provided are as follows:

  1. EE Lightning F.1A Sno XM215/469 of 228 Operational Conversion Unit of the RAF based at RAF Middleton St George County Durham in 1969.  The aircraft is finished in overall natural metal.  This aircraft participated in the 28eme Salon Aeronautique at Paris Le Bourget.  The large number 469 painted on the fuselage was the air show code, and a large Union Jack was painted on the fin.
  1. EE Lightning F.2 Sno XN733/L of 92 Squadron of the RAF based at RAF Guttersloh in West Germany in 1969.  The aircraft is finished in overall natural metal.  This aircraft has the spine and fin painted in BS.381C.110 Roundel Blue with the squadron emblem painted on the fin and the squadron colours around the fuselage nose roundel.
  1. EE Lightning F.1A Sno XM184/A Flown by SQLDR G.P. Black CO of 111 Squadron of the RAF based at RAF Wattisham Suffolk in 1964.  The aircraft is finished in overall natural metal.  This aircraft has the spine and fin painted in Gloss Black and Yellow with a lightning bolt painted around the fuselage nose roundel.
  1. EE Lightning F.3 Sno XP705/L of 29 Squadron of the RAF based at RAF Wattisham Suffolk in 1969.  The aircraft is finished in overall natural metal.  This aircraft has the squadron emblem painted on the fin and the squadron colours around the fuselage nose roundel.
