The guys at the Aviation Workshop have released a complete series of what if TSR.2 impressive detail sets for the Airfix 1/48 scale TSR.2 kit.

These sets match the high quality that the Aviation Workshop produces with its excellent range of decals. They allow for some additional detail and optional parts that are not supplied in the Airfix kit. They should also be suitable for the Dynavector vacform kit.  The accessories are detailed in the SAM publication on the TSR.2 titled “Lost Tomorrows of an Eagle”.

The parts have a small amount of residual resin flash from the casting block that is easily removed with a sharp hobby knife.

Assembly is straightforward with no modification required of the kit plastic to allow the new parts to fit.  Modellers with very little experience could install this detail set.

  • BSC-708 TSR.2 1435 gal Ventral Fuel Tank – No modification is required to fit this tank to the kit, a line diagram is supplied to ensure accurate positioning of the tank.

  • BCS-709 TSR.2 In-flight refuelling probe – No modification is required to install the refuel probe to the Airfix kit as the manufacturer has supplied accurate line drawings to assist in locating and also has a positive image of the Airfix kit panel lines cast on the back of the probe.

  • BCS-710 TSR.2 Standard Drop Tanks – These tanks are designed to be fitted under wings and only require two small 2.5mm holes to be drilled in the lower wing surface to install the wing pylons.

  • BCS-711 TSR.2 Reconnaissance Pack - This pack is a direct replacement for the bomb bay doors and requires not kit modification.  The camera optical ports were to be shuttered when the equipment was not actually in use so there are not transparent parts for the optical ports.

  • BCS-712 TSR.2 WE 177B Nuclear Bombs – This set requires some filling and clean up of the kit weapons bay to install the bomb cradle and fuel tank.  The set contains the bomb cradle, two WE 177B nuclear bombs and a rear bay fuel tank.

  • BCS-713 TSR.2 US Mk.43 Nuclear bomb pack - These bombs are designed to be fitted under wings and only require two small 2.5mm holes to be drilled in the lower wing surface to install the wing pylons.

  • BCS-714 TSR.2 1000lb Type N.1 Conventional bomb pack – this set contains four bombs and pylons to be fitted under the wings and only require four small 2.5mm holes to be drilled in the lower wing surface to install the wing pylons.  The pylons have positive locating lugs to allow for easy installation of the bombs.  Also supplied are four finely cast arming vanes to be installed on the tail of the bomb.

Overall these are very nice upgrades to allow modellers to accurately model the TSR.2 as it would have appeared in service with the RAF and will look very realistic when fully assembled and painted.

Thanks to The Aviation Workshop for the review samples
