When The Aviation Workshop Publications Ltd, On Target Special, HMS Ark Royal book was released in 2007 I was hoping a decal sheet would follow and this is indeed the case.

This impressive sheet contains the markings for no less than 13 aircraft that operated off HMS Ark Royal at different time periods during her period of service in a diversity of schemes and includes:

  • Sea Venom FAW.Mk.21, WW150, 353/0 of 890 NAS,

  • Sea Venom FAW.Mk.21, WW140, 436/0 0f 891 NAS,

  • Whirlwind HAS.Mk.3, 971 of the Ships Flight,

  • Sea Hawk FGA.Mk.6, XE385, 109/R of 800 NAS,

  • Sea Hawk FGA.Mk.6, XE608, 470/R, of 898 NAS,

  • Gannet AEW.Mk.3, WL494, 041/R of 849 NAS B Flight,

  • Buccaneer S.Mk.1, XN928, 119/R of 801 NAS,

  • Sea Vixen FAW.1, XJ559, 007/R of 890 NAS,

  • Sea King HAS.Mk.1, XV850, 55/R of 824 NAS,

  • Sea King HAS.Mk.2, XZ557, 52/R of 824 NAS,

  • Skyraider AEW.Mk.1, WV183, 419/R of 849 NAS

  • Scimitar F.Mk.1, XD276, 100/R of 800 NAS,

  • Scimitar F.Mk.1, XD280, 104/R of 800 NAS.

Aircraft stencils will need to sourced from other sources as inclusion with this sheet I suspect would have increased cost somewhat.

The sheet is beautifully printed, in register and features a concise placement guide including reference to Xtra colour, Humbrol, Model Master and Lifecolour paints. My previous experience with the application of Model Alliance decals has been very positive and they responded well to Microscale Set and Sol.

Each aircraft type provides reference to the kits that are available including the conversion sets required as appropriate.

In all, a great package sure to please modellers of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, highly recomme

Thanks to Aviation Workshop / Model Alliance (UK)  for the review sample
