A slight departure from the usual for Linden Hill Decals is this special edition decal sheet covering a range of aircraft from the now defunct Iraqi Air Force. Designed to tie in with the excellent book Iraqi Fighters 1953-2003 by Brig Gen Ahmad Sadik and Tom Cooper published earlier this year. This book was a comprehensive study of the aircraft of the fighter aircraft of the Iraqi Air Force from its entry into the jet age until the fall of the Baathist Regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003. Like the book this new set of decals from Linden Hill covers all the major aircraft types, including some with Israeli and Iranian kill markings applied, a legacy of the combat history of the Iraqi Air Force. Each subject gets serial numbers, roundels and where applicable squadron markings and kill markings on one and a half beautifully printed A5 sheets.
There are over 27 different aircraft covered from 19 types range from Vampires to Hunters and Su-25s to MiG-29s. That is plenty enough to suit most tastes, especially if looking for something out of the ordinary such as Iraqi Dasault Super Etendards or Venom FB.1s. Unlike previous sheets, instructions are limited to side profiles, simple colour notes and decal placement directions, the assumption being that anyone who uses this sheet will probably already have the aforementioned book which is full of the required reference material including four views and photographs of each subject. This is probably a safe assumption but will be a disadvantage to any possible casual purchasers. This aside, Iraqi Fighters is a great product and I for one plan at least a couple of models from its extensive choices.
s an aside this sheet is also available in both 1/72 and 1/32 scale with more and fewer options respectively.
Nice one Linden Hill!
