HyperScale is proudly supported by Squadron
VFA-2 is yet another former F-14 Squadron that has taken on a new guise and designation with the replacement of its Tomcats with F/A-18F Super Hornets. As during the existence of VF-2, VFA-2 uses skull emblazoned on its tail as squadron insignia. In this release from Afterburner Decals enables the modeler one of five Bounty Hunters Rhinos including:
-
BuNo 165916 Modex 100 in the full colour CAG scheme with appropriate markings variations for 2007 and 2008.
-
BuNo 165917 Modex 101 the Commanding Officers jet as seen in 2007.
-
BuNo 165918 Modex 102 a low-viz line jet from 2007.
-
BuNo 165911 Modex 103 another 2007 line jet with darker tail markings.
-
BuNo 165919 Modex 103 a low-viz 2004 line jet with large tail marking
Detailed instructions printed in full colour on glossy A4 pages are included for each subject as well as stencil placement diagram and very useful stores usage diagram to help place the decals which are printed on one A5 and two smaller sheets. One of these sheets is a replacement for two of the tail markings from the main sheet which appear to correct slightly misaligned stars, showing the commitment of Afterburner to producing a quality product for the modeler.
The decals are printed by Cartograph, and as usual each decal design is crisp and in perfect register. I continue to be amazed by the quality of the printing offered by this company with what appears to be no carrier film whatsoever to be trimmed before application.
With high quality kits of the F/A-18F in 1/48 scale from both Revell and Hasegawa available, there is sure to be something for the US Navy fan from this sheet to round out any collection of modern naval aircraft.
Thanks to Afterburner Decals for the sample
