There
can be no doubt that 1/32 scale aircraft have captured the
imagination of modellers worldwide. Whether the reason is the greater
amount of detail offered, or the failing eyesight of the ageing
modelling population, is not as important as the fact that people are
actually building these kits.
We have not seen too many figures and accessories for this large
scale. 1/32 scale is the same as the well-established figure scale of
54mm, so sculptors do not have to make the leap in size, only subject
matter.
Ultracast has been one of the rare voices in the wilderness with their recent high quality Japanese, German, USAAF and US Navy WWII pilot figure releases in 1/32 scale.
Ultracast now continues this series with their newest figure - a 1/32
scale RAF Fighter Pilot from the Battle of Britain, 1940.
This figure is beautifully sculpted by master modeller Mike Good. Casting is also first
class. All detail is crisply rendered and there is not a single
imperfection to be found anywhere on my sample.
The figure is broken down into eight parts - the torso, legs, two arms, two boots, a head and a scarf. These parts are
connected to their casting blocks via thin resin strips, which makes
cleanup fast and painless.
The facial features and fabric drape are very convincing. The separate long end of the scarf and the pilot's hair are billowing in the wind - a nice touch.
Ultracast's 1/32 scale RAF Battle of Britain fighter pilot figure will be a welcome
companion to Hasegawa's Spitfire Mk.I and Pacific Coast Models soon-to-be-released Hurricane Mk.I kit. It will also be a very appealing
subject as a standalone figure or in a vignette.
It is great to see a British figure join his counterparts in this excellent series.
