Ultracast has five new releases in 1/48 scale.
The first is a pair of replacement gun fairings for the leading edges of Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-51D and K kits.
The new machine guns are accurately staggered and the muzzles are hollow. The biggest advantage of these replacements compared to the plastic parts, however, is the complete absence of any leading edge seams. The kit parts are also slightly misaligned when fitted straight from the box.
Cleanup will be a snap (literally), but the plastic gun fairings will have to be carefully cut from the leading edges of the kit wings. Some previous experience with a razor saw and hobby knife will be helpful for this task.
Four new seats are available too:
48207 - F4U Corsair Seats (with British Q-type harness). One seat is supplied.
48208 - F6F Hellcat Seats (with British Q-type harness) . One seat is supplied.
48209 - F4U Corsair Seats (without harness). Two seats are included.
48210 - F6F Hellcat Seats (without harness). Two seats are included.
All the seats feature beautifully fine detail. They are cast in a single piece with the mounting frame behind the seat. The casting block is nothing more than four fine strips of resin. There is a tiny amount of very fine flash between the top of the frame and the seat itself that will need to be removed with the tip of a sharp hobby knife.
The Q-type harness applies to British-operated fighters from mid-war onward. These seats should be appropriate for all WWII Fleet Air Arm Corsairs and Hellcats. The seats featuring the Q-type harness displays a natural drape. The harness should look great after a careful painting and weathering job.
Mustang, Corsair and Hellcat fans will be very pleased to see these five excellent new releases from Ultracast.
Thanks to Ultracast for the review sample.
