Revell's new 1/32 scale Junkers Ju 88 A-1 is undoubtedky a beautiful kit, but one surprise omission was the ETC bomb racks fitted underneath the inboard section of each wing.

Four racks were almost universally installed on all bomber versions of the Ju 88 A including the A-1 offered by Revell. Sadly though, there is nary a bomb rack in sight inside Revell's box.

Jerry Rutman has not let the grass grow under his feet. Only weeks after the release of Revell's kit, he has delivered a simple yet high quality solution to this problem.

JRutman Productions' has released two styles of bomb racks common to the Junkers Ju 88. The first is a ETC500 IXd bomb rack. This was used to carry regualr bombs. The second rack is the ETC500/1000 XI, which was designed for heavier ordnance of up to 1,000 kg.

The Ju 88 often carried a combination of these racks with one ETC500/1000 supplementing three ETC500.

Each rack comprises the main part plus four sway braces in resin.

The sway braces are delicately done, including a raised semi-circle representing the adjusting wheel. For complete accuracy in this large scale, two short lengths of wire should be added to each side of the streamlined fairings as sway arm adjusters (but you will have to supply your own wire).

The main racks feature a smallish amount of casting residue that will only take a few minutes to clean up.

Installation is fast and easy - simply glue them to the bottom of your Revell Ju 88 wings. I found that the contour of the racks did not quite match that of the wing, but it will be an easy matter to persuade the resin parts to bend into shape either with warm water (or a hair dryer - my last remaining use) prior to installation, or clamping while super glue sets.

The photo below shows one of each rack test fitted to the bottom of one wing. They are only held in place with Blu-Tack for this photo.

JRutman Productions' 1/32 scale ETC bomb racks are an essential addition for any modeller building Revell's big Ju 88 bomber.

Thanks Jerry!
