This is my 1/48 Tempest Mk.II, using the 1/48 scale Eduard kit and Airwaves resin conversion set.
Airwaves supplies a replacement nose section from approximately the wing spar forward, as well as wing leading edge inlets, a new spinner, and propeller blades.
The Eduard parts are mostly cut along existing panel lines, and a little care at this stage ensures a very satisfying fit. The only significant gap was about 1mm on the undersurface of the nose: easily filled with Milliput.
Other resin goodies include an Ultracast Typhoon seat and True Details wheels. The latter are sold for the Sea Fury, but as far as I can tell they’re identical.
I also replaced the leading edge of the fin with a new one constructed from sheet styrene. The real Tempest had a sharp edged fin fillet, something which is very noticeably absent on the Eduard kit. I also built a new tyre for the tail wheel and added a little detail to the undercarriage bays.
National markings and underwing serials were from Model Alliance sheet 489021: Tempest Mk.II/F.2/F/6. The model is marked as a fictitious aircraft from No. 26 Squadron, based at Fassberg in 1946/47.
