Here is my 1/48 scale ICM Spitfire Mk.VIII.
Modelers out there who are thinking about doing this kit ought to see Bob Swaddling's kit review
and build article(s) - they are very thorough and will tell you all you need to know about
accuracy and the ins and outs of building it.
If you have the kit and have looked at the plastic it's quite evident that it's a step up from
the earlier ICM stuff - [I've done the Yak-9K and have the 7A also]. There is a delicacy and
attention to detail that's very pleasing. It's difficult to achieve the kind of quality control
that Tamiya has.
As illustrated, the decals are SuperScale - probably produced in the early 90s. They went
down neatly and had thorough data stenciling and bonding markings - I thought these to
be a bit oversized, but I used them all as everything was going nicely by then..why stop now ?
I got some help with the theatre markings from Bud Highleyman and Modeldad - I had
initially missed the striping, but noticed it on Franck Oudin's build of 'Fargo Express'.
So both the yellow stripes and the red hubs had to be retro-painted.
Building this kit is a workout for your basic modeling skills - and it was fun to do. What's more, it just looks right... like a Spitfire should !
