Bell P-39F Airacobra

Special Hobby's 1/32 scale Airacobra Mk.I / P-39F is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is my new Special Hobby 1/32 scale P-39F Airacobra. I built the model straight from the box.

I know the paint scheme is purely speculative, but I have interpreted the colours to be the RAAF maritime scheme of Dark Ocean Blue and Extra Dark Sea Grey on the upper surfaces and Sky Blue undersurfaces. This scheme was just started being used on RAAF Catalinas, Kingfishers etc.

Apparently these Airacobras were used by 82 Squadron for coastal patrols.

As for the code letters being the wrong colours, RAF Sky instead of RAAF Sky Blue, I overcame the problem by cutting out the code letters on the decal sheet and using the sheet as a template and spraying Sky Blue paint through the template directed onto the model. For the serial numbers I carefully hand paint Medium Sea Grey paint over the numbers on the decal.
