S.E.5a Two-Seater Trainer

Roden's 1/48 scale S.E.5a is available online from Squadron.com

Description

This model is based on a 1/48 S.E.5a kit by Roden, and has been modified to represent one of the few two-seat trainers that were converted from standard fighter S.E.5a's.

The particular subject the model has been finished as was part of the fledgling Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Camp Borden just after the First World War. Photos of this aircraft were found in the photographic archives of the Canada Aviation Museum.

Conversion work involved modification of the fuselage top decking to eliminate the fighter's armament and add the second cockpit ahead of the existing one.

The model was painted with custom-mixed Gunze acrylics.

The registration letters on the wings were masked and airbrushed on, while the ones on the fuselage and empennage were created in Corel Draw and printed with an ink-jet printer on clear decal film.

Nylon thread was used for the rigging.
